Location: 21-mile strip along the Pacific Coast Highway


History: The Malibu Colony, as it is known today, used to be a private land belonging to the Rindge family but later they were forced to sell most of their land and the colony was born. It is situated along the Malibu Lagoon State Beach (Go There Guide).


Prime Destinations: Found within or along the edges of Malibu are some of the most renowned attractions and museums including Skidmore Contemporary Art, J. Paul Getty Museum (below), The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum, The Malibu Performing Arts Center, and The Pepperdine University Center, to name just a few.

Beaches:  Malibu’s beaches include Malibu State Beach (below), Surfrider Beach, Topanga State Beach, and  Zuma Beach. An additional beach nearby once a part of Old Malibu is called Robert H. Meyer Memorial State Beach. Old Malibu was the name given to this area before it was an official city.

Shopping: If you’re into high-end shopping, the Malibu Country Mart (below) is the place to go. It’s a family-friendly location with a playground, fabulous shops, and great food to enjoy.
